Europe Day is a public holiday observed every 9 May in Luxembourg. Other member states of the European Union celebrate Europe Day too, but Luxembourg was the first to declare it an official public holiday.

The holiday commemorates the passing of the Schuman Declaration on 9 May, 1950, which is looked back to as the beginning of what eventually became the modern-day EU.
On Europe Day, there are many special events in Luxembourg City and in Schengen. There are concerts, kids’ events, guided tours of the European Museum, song and dance performances, educational booths, stalls selling foods representative of all EU member states, and a “European Village“ in the heart of Luxembourg City.
